Lo spagnolo della Movistar si aggiudica la terza tappa del Tour de Romandie staccando la concorrenza sull’ultima salita di giornata e precedendo quel che resta del gruppo di 22 secondi: un vantaggio che gli permette di diventare anche la nuova maglia gialla della corsa, sfilando il simbolo del primato a un Rohan Dennis caduto nella concitata fase finale. Al Giro di Romandia (La Neuveville-Saint-Imier di 165 chilometri) arriva finalmente il giorno di Sonny Colbrelli che dopo il secondo posto di ieri, battuto da Peter Sagan, riesce a tornare a quella vittoria che mancava dal 2 agosto 2020 alla Route d’Occitanie. La tappa si è animata dopo una quindicina di chilometri dalla partenza grazie alla fuga promossa da sei atleti: Davide Villella (Movistar Team), Antwan Tolhoek (Jumbo Visma), Hermann Pernsteiner (Bahrain Victorius), Chris Hamilton (Team DSM), Jonathan Caicedo (EF Education Nippo) e Rein Taaramäe (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert). Colbrelli allo sprint è stato lanciato perfettamente guidato da Damiano Caruso, in una volata di una trentina di corridori, e nel finale è riuscito a difendersi dal ritorno dell’australiano Patrick Bevin. Terzo Marc Hirschi. Altri italiani: quinto posto per Diego Ulissi, ottavo per Fausto Masnada. In classifica generale c’è sempre al comando l’australiano Rohan Dennis (Ineos Grenadiers) che ha 8 secondi di vantaggio sul connazionale Patrick Bevin (Israel Start-Up Nation) e nove sul britannico Geraint Thomas.

Quella di oggi era l’unica tappa adatta ai velocisti e Peter Sagan non si fa scappare l’occasione conseguendo la seconda vittoria nel 2021, sprintando, rimontando e scavalcato Sonny Colbrelli che era partito troppo presto. Niente da fare invece per Elia Viviani che era rimasto attardato sulle ultime due salitelle. In top 10 comunque 5 italiani: ci sono anche Pasqualon, Covi, Cattaneo e Mosca.

Nuova corsa a tappe, principalmente per scalatori, che parte con il prologo di Oron (4,05 km) con una salita di 1 km al 6,4% che fa la differenza. Stravince Rohan Dennis con il tempo di 5’26”, ma è tripletta Ineos Grenadiers con il 2° posto di Geraint Thomas e il 3° posto di Richie Porte. A vincere è ancora uno sloveno, anche se non è stato il favorito numero 1 di giornata. Questa volta Roglic paga le fatiche dell’Amstel, e della Freccia Vallone e viene messo in trappola degli uomini dell’UAE Emirates che oggi avevano una voglia di vincere clamorosa. Un po’ per come Pogacar l’aveva persa lo scorso anno, un po’ perché il team emiratino era stato escluso dalla Freccia Vallone di qualche giorno fa per due casi covid, benché fossero falsi positivi . In fuga sin dal mattino sono partiti Laurens Huys e Mathijs Paasschens (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB), Loïc Vliegen e Lorenzo Rota (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert), Sergei Chernetski (Gazprom RusVelo), Tomasz Marczyński (Lotto Soudal) e Aaron Van Poucke (Sport Vlaanderen – Baloise). Huys e Rota sono rimasti all’attacco da soli sulla Redoute, mentre nel gruppo dei favoriti è stata la Ineos Grenadiers ad accendere la bagarre. Huys e Rota, raggiunti da Vliegen (poi bloccato dai crampi) e Marczyński alla fine si sono arresi solo a 20 chilometri dalla conclusione quando è scattato Carapaz. Il vincitore del Tour de France è stato sempre nelle posizioni ed è stato reattivo quando Woods ha portato via il drappello decisivo a 13 km dalla fine. Poi ha battuto Alaphilippe allo sprint, cosa non di tutti i giorni considerando lo spunto veloce del campione del mondo dopo averla sfiorata l’anno scorso. Ai piedi del podio arriva invece Valverde che se l’è giocata male alla fine, anche se era ancora lì a battagliare per vincere, nel giorno del suo 41esimo compleanno. Lui voleva raggiungere Merckx nell’albo d’oro della Doyenne: missione non compiuta, ma era comunque lì. peccato e comunque onore al murciano!

Il basco Pello Bilbao della Bahrain Victorious, vince nella volata a tre la quarta tappa del Tour of the Alps, Naturno-Valle del Chiese/Pieve di Bono, km 168, la tappa regina della corsa con quasi 4000 metri di dislivello. La fuga è partita dopo 40 chilometri di grande bagarre ed è stata animata da Attila Valter (Groupama FDJ), Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Trek Segafredo), Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), Felix Großschartner (Bora hansgrohe), Chris Froome (Israel Start-Up Nation), Hermann Pernsteiner (Bahrain Victorious), Nicolas Prodhomme (Ag2r Citroen), Nicolas Roche (Team DSM) e Marton Dina (Eolo Kometa).Battuti il russo Aleksander Vlasov (Astana) e il leader della corsa Simon Yates (Bike Exchange). Bilbao dedica a Michele Scarponi, nel giorno del quarto anniversario della tragedia del marchigiano, il basco e Michele sono stati compagni di squadra all’Astana nel 2017. Nella sua carriera, Bilbao, che ha 31 anni, è arrivato al Giro quinto nel 2020 e sesto nel 2018, vincendo due tappe nel 2019: sarà con Landa e Caruso una delle tre punte della squadra del Bahrain nella corsa rosa.

Il francese Julian Alaphilippe ha vinto la 85ª Freccia Vallone, da Charleroi a Huy in Belgio, di 194 chilometri, in 4 ore, 36 minuti e 25 secondi. Il campione del mondo, alla terza vittoria alla Freccia Vallone dopo il 2018 e 2019, ha battuto lo sloveno Primoc Roglic scattato a 400 metri dall’arrivo. Terzo a sei secondi lo spagnolo Alejandro Valverde, che con cinque successi detiene il record della Freccia Vallone, davanti al canadese Michael Woods e al francese Warren Barguil. A Naturno, traguardo della terza frazione che ha segnato il ritorno in Italia della corsa dell’Euregio, il 27enne trentino di Ineos Grenadiers si è imposto in volata sull’austriaco della Bora-Hansgrohe Grosschartner: uno sprint di potenza, lungo, che ha dato a Moscon il secondo successo in questa edizione dopo quello della frazione inaugurale di Innsbruck. In attesa della tappa regina di giovedì, il britannico Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange) è rimasto al comando al termine di una giornata in cui il suo team ha controllato a distanza l’azione dei fuggitivi: Yates ha sempre 45” su Sivakov, russo di Ineos-Grenadiers.
