Due mesi dopo la vittoria di tappa al Tour of the Alps, Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) vince la sua seconda corsa stagionale nella settima e penultima frazione del Giro di Svizzera, tra Ambri (Ticino) e Malbun in Liechtenstein, che permette al colombiano Sergio Higuita (Bora) di prendere il comando della classifica generale. Pinot si è imposto in solitaria sulla cima del Malbun (passo non di categoria). Ha preceduto lo spagnolo Oscar Rodriguez (Movistar) e il kazako Alexey Lutsenko (Astana). Higuita, 4°, ha preso la maglia gialla dal danese Jakob Fuglsang (Israele-PT), 7° al traguardo di Malbun. Nella classifica generale, il colombiano ha solo 2” di vantaggio sul britannico Geraint Thomas (Ineos) e 19” su Fuglsang, ora terzo. L’85ª edizione del Tour de Suisse, disturbata dal ritiro dei corridori positivi al Covid, si conclude domenica con una cronometro di 25,6 km a Vaduz, capitale del Liechtenstein.

Nuova straordinaria dimostrazione di forza di Tadej Pogacar e Rafal Majkanella quarta tappa del Giro di Slovenia la UAE Emirates non conosce vie di mezzo: interpreta la tappa all’attacco, sempre. Come nella quarta frazione del Giro di Slovenia, Laško-Velika Planina di 152,4 chilometri: Rafał Majka e Tadej Pogacar arrivano in parata, dopo essersi giocati il successo a morra cinese (sasso per Pogacar, carta per Majka). Doveva essere la tappa più semplice di questo Giro di Slovenia, ma semplice non è stata. Diversi i dentelli, infatti, che hanno messo in difficoltà anche i big. Soprattutto quando Mohoric si è messo in testa a tirare, rompendo il plotone in diversi tronconi. Pogacar non si è fatto sorprendere. A vincere è poi Groenewegen con il suo 5° successo stagionale: perfetto lo sprint del neerlandese a battere Taminiaux, Ackermann e tutti gli italiani. Ce n’erano tanti tra Fiorelli, Albanese, Gazzoli e Felline che si sono dovuti però accontentare di un piazzamento. A proposito di italiani, grande applausi per Matteo Sobrero. Il camoine italiano a cronometro si è messo a fare l’andatura nel finale di tappa per evitare il rientro di alcuni sprinter, dando così semaforo verde a Groenewegen. Ottimo il lavoro del campione nazionale italiano che si dimostra importante anche nelle dinamiche di gruppo.

I big non hanno aspettato i tapponi di Moosalp e Malbun per sfidarsi in chiave classifica generale e, sfruttando il caldo di giornata, tutti hanno provato a mettere in scacco il proprio rivale. Ad uscire con le ossa rotte dal circuito di Novazzano è proprio quello che veniva additato come il favorito di giornata per il successo di tappa: Remco Evenepoel. Il belga ha perso le ruote del gruppo salvo poi rientrare grazie all’aiuto di Masnada. Ma quando si è messa a tirare la Israel di Fuglsang, nuovo momento no per Evenepoel che è poi arrivato al traguardo con oltre 2′ di ritardo. Fuglsang ci ha provato a più riprese, ma l’eroe di giornata è Vlasov che centra il suo quinto successo stagionale. Intendiamoci, da qui alla crono di Vaduz manca ancora tanto, basta considerare che tra Vlasov e Leknessund. che è il 10° in classifica, ci sono 10 corridori in 44”. Ma è stata una buona prova di forza del russo che ha seguito i rivali al momento giusto, vedi Fuglsang, sapendo anche gestire la forza della Ineos Greandiers che aveva lavorato tutto giurno per portare al successo Geraint Thomas. Si fa vedere anche Pozzovivo che sale fino al 14° posto.

. Al Giro di Slovenia è arrivata una prima risposta dal connazionale Tadej Pogacar, capitano della Uae Emirates, vincitore della grande giro francese nelle ultime due edizioni. Nei 164,7 km della Nova Gorica-Postojna successo per il polacco Rafaj Majka davanti a Domen Novak (Bahrain Victorius) e Tadej Pogacar. Il vincitore dell’ultima edizione delle Strade Bianche ha messo le cose in chiaro a circa 60 km dall’arrivo quando ha attaccato insieme al compagno di squadra Majka. Con loro Domen Novak (Bahrain Victorius). I tre sono arrivati a giocarsi il successo andato poi a Majka. Alle loro spalle quarto posto per Vincenzo Albanese (Eolo Kometa) arrivato con 48” di ritardo. Alberto Bettiol esulta… ma la seconda tappa del Giro di Svizzera, Küsnacht-Aesch di 198 km, è stata vinta dal norvegese Andreas Leknessund, 23enne del Team Dsm. La frazione ha vissuto di una fuga di giornata che, dopo le selezioni sulle varie salite, ha visto rimanere sei corridori: Schar, Leknessund, Rutsch, Badilatti, Holmes e Burgaudeau. I fuggitivi sono riusciti a mantenere il vantaggio nonostante i tentativi del gruppo di ricucire il divario con Leknessund che è riuscito a staccare i compagni di fuga presentandosi da solo sul traguardo finale.
Carlos Verona conquista il primo successo in carriera, Primoz Roglic ipoteca il Criterium del Delfinato con la maglia gialla che passa dal compagno Van Aert allo sloveno. Nei 134,8 km da Saint Chaffrey a Vaujany con le ascese del Galibier e della Croix de Fer il 29enne spagnolo della Movistar è stato protagonista della fuga decisiva che nei chilometri finali ha condiviso con Kenny Elissonde, francese della Trek Segafredo. Nella lotta per la classifica generale ha illuso uno scatto sulla Croix de Fer di Damiano Caruso ma nei chilometri finali della tappa il siciliano non ha retto il ritmo imposto da Jonas Vingegaard e ha chiuso all’11° posto con 56” di ritardo. Il danese della Jumbo Visma si è poi fatto da parte a meno di 2 km dall’arrivo quando Roglic è partito con uno scatto deciso e ha chiuso al 2° posto la tappa a 13” da Verona.. Sul Galibier, praticamente allo scollinamento, si è formato un gruppo di attaccanti con Amador (Ineos), Fabbro (Bora), Sanchez (Bahrain), Muhlberger e Verona (Movistar), Armirail (Groupama), Goldstein (Israel), Devenyns (Quick Step), Ardila (UAE), Elissonde, Stuyven e Skujins (Trek), Lafay (Cofidis), Gugliemi (Arkea), Huys (Intermarché), Donovan e Vermaerke (DSM) e Rolland (B&B).Sulla Croix de Fer ha attaccato Donovan, mentre si sono rialzati Ardila e Goldstein, quest’ultimo vittima di una caduta. Il gruppo dei battistrada è poi esploso fino a portare una coppia al comando, formata da Carlos Verona e Kenny Elissonde. Sulle prime rampe di Vaujany, poi, Verona ha lasciato il compagnodi avventura. Dietro, tra i big della generale, grande lavoro della Jumbo Visma, poi forcing a turno della Groupama FDJ per Gaudu e della Bahrain Victorious per Caruso. Sulla salita finale proprio Gaudu ha fatto lavorare la squadra ma non ha finlizzato, mentre Roglic ha messo davanti Vingegaard a tre chilometri dal traguardo, ha fatto saltare il banco e poi è scattato tutto solo per arrivare in scia a Verona, ha conquistato la maglia di leader e ha staccato tutti i rivali per la corsa alla classifica generale. Da segnalare che non ha preso il via Chris Froome e strada facendo anche il suo compagno di squadra Guy Sagiv si è ritirato. Stop anche per Meeus, Groenewegen e Mozzato oltreché per Sebastian Molano, espulso ieri per aver alzato le mani contro un avversario.
