Nella frazione regina di questa corsa vanno in fuga in dodici, ma solo Ion Izagirre e Oscar Rodriguez resistono fino all’ultima salita e vengono ripresi ai -9. Qui si stacca Geraint Thomas e attacca Einer Rubio, ma il gruppetto dei big torna sotto all’ultimo chilometro e la BORA Hansgrohe piazza la doppietta con Sergio Higuita e Aleksandr Vlasov. Molto bene Rohan Dennis.

Volata tra una quarantina di corridori nella terza tappa con arrivo a Valbroye: vince Patrick Bevin (Israel – Premier Tech) grazie a un’ottima scelta di tempo. Sul podio Ethan Hayter e Rohan Dennis, che prendono preziosi secondi di abbuono. Damiano Caruso chiude sesto. Big della generale tutti insieme al traguardo.

Seconda vittoria per Ethan Hayther al Tour de Romandie

Il giovane britannico della Ineos Grenadiers, Ethan Hayther, ha sfruttato al meglio il lavoro della squadra e poi, negli ultimi 200 metri non ha lasciato il minimo spazio ai rivali. Seconda vittoria per lui in questo Romandia. Due giorni fa aveva vinto il prologo, ieri è caduto a 15 km dal traguardo ed è arrivato ultimo e oggi si è preso il lusso di firmare la doppietta. In classifica generale resta al comando Rohan Dennis che per tutta la giornata è stato ottimamente spalleggiato da Robert Gesink. Non sono partiti Rigoberto Uran (EF Education Easypost), Matthew Holmes (Lotto Soudal) e Kevin Colleoni (BikeExchange Jayco).

Finale spettacolare nella prima tappa in linea di questa edizione: sullo strappo conclusivo Rohan Dennis fa la differenza, ma cede sul più bello e viene passato da Dylan Teuns proprio sul traguardo. L’australiano si consola con la maglia di leader della generale, visto che Hayter era caduto in precedenza. Terzo Hirschi davanti a Vlasov, bene Damiano Caruso (settimo).

Parla inglese la prima tappa della corsa svizzera, con Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) che vola sul tracciato di Losanna e si impone davanti a Rohan Dennis (Jumbo Visma) e Felix Grossschartner. Il migliore degli italiani è Matteo Sobrero, quinto, appena dietro a Geraint Thomas. Damiano Caruso si difende e chiude a 21 secondi dal vincitore.

Trionfo solitario di Evenepoel a Liegi

Strepitoso Remco Evenepoel che al debutto nella Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi, la Doyenne, la classica più antica (1892), il predestinato del ciclismo mondiale trionfa nella 108a edizione con un’azione spettacolare iniziata con tremendo attacco in cima alla Redoute, a 29 km dalla conclusione. Il gruppo ci prova, ma non può nulla contro il belga che due anni fa, al Giro di Lombardia, aveva visto la morte dopo un volo di dieci metri da un ponticello. Oggi il trionfo, le lacrime davanti ai suoi tifosi: inizia l’era di Remco, il sopravvissuto. Tre belgi sul podio: secondo Quinten Hermans e terzo Wout Van Aert a 48”. L’ultimo belga a trionfare era stato Gilbert nel 2011.

Suona la Marsigliese a Lienz, in Austria, dove si è conclusa la 45a edizione del Tour of the Alps con una tappa di 114 km intensissima e spettacolare. In trionfo due grandi francesi: la tappa a Thibaut Pinot, la classifica finale a Romain Bardet davanti all’australiano Michael Storer (Groupama) a 14” e all’olandese Thymen Arensman (Team Dsm) a 16”. Bardet, 31 anni, che corre per l’olandese Team Dsm, ha attaccato il leader Bilbao sotto la pioggia, l’ha isolato e grazie al gregario Aresman gli ha inflitto sul traguardo 38”: ne aveva appena 2 alla partenza

Colpacio di Miguel Angel Lopez al Tour of the Alps

Miguel Angel Lopez si aggiudica la quarta tappa del Tour of the Alps. Il colombiano dell’Astana, sul traguardo di Kals am Grossglockner (partenza da Villabassa per 142,4 km), in Austria, ha preceduto il francese Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-Fdj) che aveva provato ad evadere dal gruppo sulla salita finale. Nella volata per il terzo posto s’impone Roman Bardet (Team Dsm) davanti al leader della corsa Pello Bilbao. Uno sprint importante quello del francese che con i 4” di abbuono presi accorcia il distacco sul basco prima dell’ultima tappa di Lienz. Ora tra il leader e Bardet ci sono solo due

Sfiora il sogno di Valverde di vincere alla sesta alla Freccia Vallone, secondo dietro a Teuns

Dylan Teuns ha vinto l’edizione numero 86 della Freccia Vallone, 202 km e tradizionale traguardo in cima al Muro di Huy. Il belga della Bahrain-Victorious, 30 anni, ha ottenuto così il 13° successo da professionista davanti a un grande Alejandro Valverde: lo spagnolo della Movistar lunedì compirà 42 anni ma è ancora molto competitivo e gli è mancata qualche pedalata appena per il sesto successo nella classica belga. Sul podio è andato anche il russo Alexander Vlasov, della Bora-Hansgrohe. Poi l’iridato Alaphilippe e Dani Martinez.

Splendido assolo di Kamna al Tour of the Alps

Lennard Kamna ha vinto la terza tappa del Tour of The Alps, da Lana a Villabassa. Il tedesco della Bora a poco più di 1 km dall’arrivo ha piazzato lo scatto decisivo che ha sorpreso gli altri compagni di fuga, ma soprattutto che ha preso in contropiede il più esperto tra i fuggitivi, il costaricense Amador. Per il corridore della Bora è il secondo successo stagionale dopo il colpo nella quinta e ultima frazione della Vuelta Andalucia. Secondo posto per Amador (Ineos) a 3” , terzo lo spagnolo Lastra (Caja Rural) a 4”. In classifica generale mantiene la maglia di leader il basco Bilbao con 6” sul francese Bardet e 12” sull’ungherese Valter.
